The magnificent Haras de Pirque estate occupies a privileged location at the foot of the Andes in Chile’s Maipo Valley wine region. The lovingly tended vineyards are surrounded by the estate’s thoroughbred racetrack and breeding farm and the state-of-the-art horseshoe shaped winery, symbolising the passion for purebred horses. The unique design of the winery, built into the hillside, allows the entire wine-making process to flow with gravity thus limiting the use of pumps and other equipment. This technique substantially prevents the risk of oxidation and it is softer on the tannins and helps protect the wine’s aromas and flavours.
The wine side of Haras de Pirque is now owned by Italy’s Antinori family and their chief winemaker Renzo Cotarella brings his own elegant sensibility to bear while respecting the character of this very particular terroir.
In 2006, the property started to develop the organic management of its Maipo-Andes vineyards, which was completed in 2016. Today, all the grapes and wines from Haras de Pirque are certified organic.
