In 1996, we went to Rueda to produce a good white wine. The hills of stony, chalky soil and the native Verdejo variety of grapes were powerful attractions.
In those days it was a challenge to speak of a great Spanish white wine and we were driven to reveal and celebrate this facet of our land.
Since success was the only option, we decided on a simple wine. We even gave in to the temptation to work with Sauvignon grapes to make it more attractive to the English speaking market. Basa sold all around the world.
We have had first-hand experience of this region, its commercial success and the dangers of this success. We will always be grateful to Basa for all it has given us. For several years now, we have been working to return to a more sober, less commercial and more original Rueda, using native varieties of grapes. We have been working for 10 years to produce a great Rueda, El Transistor, which attempts to reveal the authentic character of the best Rueda Verdejo. This work represents our dedication and commitment to this corner of Castilla.
